Wow. What can I say about this session. My eyes were delighted with colour, my senses were indulged with taste and smell, my ovaries ached in clucky-ness and my heart swelled with inspiration. Kate and Andy invited me into their home to capture their every day. It was a lovely Summer evening and their every day ritual is to pick from their garden what they are going to cook for dinner. I am so impressed with people that can do that – just decide on the spot what they are going to eat with the fruits of their labour. I’m a planner (insert eye roll from friends & family here) so I have to have my meals planned & shopped for weekly or else my little brain can’t cope with decision making on the day. I also cook & bake from recipe books and am so jealous of people that can just cook by taste, texture and smell. One day in my dreams, I will have a ripper veggie garden and will attempt a different way of preparing meals.
Anyhow. I digress. Kate showed off her baby wearing skills and we headed down to the hot house and to inspect the treasure trove of delicious delights. Little Murphy loved the smells and textures of the veggies and herbs as much as I did and I captured their every day – picking, smelling, tasting, weeding and watering. We meandered our way back to the house with baskets of goodies picking berries & nectarines on the way. We had some playtime with their fur babies Spencer and Stella then Andy went and whipped up dinner while Kate breast fed Murphy (with Stella the ever present protector close by).
They all had a bite to eat and I left with a box of goodies, some gardening & cooking tips and a card full of images captured of every day family memories to admire for a lifetime. How much is Murphy going to love looking back at these images one day knowing that her family ritual of picking from their garden all started when she was just a babe? How much is she going to love seeing how completely loved, adored and looked after she was? How much are these images going to trigger emotion fueled memories for her whole family?
I highly recommend all families take me to a location that means something to them – weather it be their home, their favorite beach, their favorite holiday destination or their favorite park or camp ground. Where ever it is that means the most to you, doing what you love – please take me there as your love for that space and each other is going to shine through in your photographs just like this session. Thank you Kate and Andy for reminding me why it is so important for me to follow a family to their most loved location and how giddy with excitement and inspiration I get when I do.
